Elfriede Lohse-Wächtler in the Prinzhorn Collection – Exploring the Estate

April 27 to August 20, 2023

Since her paintings and drawings were rediscovered in the 1990s, Elfriede Lohse-Wächtler (1899-1940) has increasingly received attention as one of the most impressive German artists of the interwar period. In addition, Lohse-Wächtler, who later lived in a psychiatric ward, is one of the prominent victims of the Nazi euthanasia program. The Prinzhorn Collection was able to acquire a large part of her estate in 2021, and is now providing insights into the diversity of her work for the first time.
